what is biodynamic
craniosacral therapy
(BCST)
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) is a whole person approach to healing that deeply acknowledges the mind-body-spirit interconnections. Practitioners connect with the body’s intelligence and underlying forces of health intrinsic in our systems and offer a neutral embodied presence to support these forces to emerge. Practitioners are highly skilled in listening to these forces which then set the priorities for the session. Remarkably, these forces bring about adjustments within the system’s anatomy and physiology sensed as subtle movements in the fluids and tissues of the body. As the practitioner sits in a neutral state, the treatment process unfolds and holistic reorganization towards health occurs. The therapy offers a container of safety for deep healing, nervous system regulation and trauma resolution without being overwhelming or restimulating.

BCST is a gentle, non-invasive form of touch therapy. There is no manipulation of tissues, no pressure on tissues and no adjustments are made by the practitioner. Clients are fully clothed and sit or lay on a massage table for treatment. In addition to touch, practitioners verbally support clients in observing body sensations and developing a relationship with their body. Clients may sense releases, small movements, and temperature changes during and after the sessions.
Clients report:
-
A reduction in pain
-
Better overall health and improved immunity
-
Feeling more calm and relaxed
-
Feeling more energetic
-
Improved nervous system functioning and resiliency (better coping with stressful situations)
-
Improved sleep and digestion
-
Improved mental health, mental clarity
-
Improved body awareness, feeling more connected and aware

BCST can deeply support a wide variety of illnesses and conditions as most imbalances (whether physical, emotional or spiritual) respond to the therapy.
WORKING WITH TRAUMA
Experiences that are too overwhelming to cope with can remain locked in our system as our body protects itself. Long term effects of unresolved trauma may include feelings of dissociation, stress or hyper vigilance and can lead to illness or disease. Practitioners are skilled at supporting the body and brain to resolve these held experiences in a way that does not involve revisiting the past or original traumatic events.
PREGNANCY AND NEWBORNS
BCST is particularly well suited to the perinatal period supporting both the pregnant person and newborn. Treatments during pregnancy support the body through the physiological changes and help in approaching labour, birth and parenting with confidence and vitality. Postpartum treatments can support recovery from birth, birth trauma, feeding issues and adjustment to parenting. Newborns respond well and easily to treatments and are particularly beneficial in helping the system rebalance after birth. Conditions that respond well include:
-
breast/chest-feeding difficulties
-
colic/reflux/constipation
-
sleep issues
-
distress/crying
-
shock or overwhelm from difficult birth, premature birth, cesarean/belly birth, assisted delivery, separation at birth
